County flies the flag for Commonwealth Day

Civic leaders flagged up the importance of Commonwealth Day in Morpeth yesterday.

The Commonwealth Flag was raised at County Hall in Loansdean to join in celebrations across the globe.

It is the second year that local authorities have marked Commonwealth Day in such fashion, and 750 flags were expected to be flown in 38 different countries.

In Morpeth Northumberland County Council Civic Head Kathy Graham read a specially written message from the Queen.

A small crowd attended, along with pupils from Cragside Church of England Primary School in Cramlington.
