LEADING councillors have highlighted the importance of protecting Morpeth from flooding.
The county council is set to take on a larger role in flood management when it becomes the Lead Local Flood Authority and, from April, the council will have to produce local flood strategies.
Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services Ian Lindley said: “The money that may or may not be available for Morpeth next year will be determined by this repsonse. We should certainly do everything we can to ensure that Morpeth is protected.”
Executive Member for Corporate Resources Andrew Tebbutt said: “I think it’s very important that we do this right. The longer it takes to sort Morpeth out, the longer it takes to help the rest of the county.”
