A talented young musician will look to build on her recent Wansbeck Music Festival success in the months ahead.

Courtney Lucas, who attends Pegswood Primary School, won first place awards in the descant recorder solo U11 and U13, treble recorder solo U11 and woodwind flute solo U11 categories.

The 10-year-old has been playing the instruments for four years. She goes to Young Musicianship sessions at Sage Gateshead every Saturday, playing as part of an orchestra and ensemble.

She receives private tuition from teenager Tamsin Reed – who received the £600 bursary, which is presented at the festival, that enables a performer to attend the European Youth Music Summer School.
