£6,000 of fuel stolen

FUEL thieves have made off with more than £6,000 of diesel after a month-long operation.

The fuel was stolen from a tanker in the back yard of the Royal Mail depot in Morpeth in a number of visits between September 1 and October 5.

The thieves inserted a hose in the top of the container and syphoned the diesel from the tank.

And on some occasions they even left containers nearby and returned for them later.

A total of £6,200 of fuel has been stolen.

Police believe the offenders must have been transporting the diesel in a vehicle due to the large quantity taken.
