POLICE are warning people to keep their keys safe at all times after a car was stolen in Ellington.
A Vauxhall Astra was taken from the Breamish area of the village overnight on Tuesday.
The keys had been left hanging in the lock on the inside of a back door.
The vehicle was found in the Fenham Road area of Lynemouth on Wednesday morning.
Northumberland Superintendent Mick Pearson said: “People should put vehicle keys somewhere secure overnight. Don’t leave them out in the open or in front of windows and don’t leave them in the back of door locks.
“We know some thieves find ways of hooking keys that are in reach of letter boxes and so move them away from doorways.
“If people see anyone acting suspiciously where they live late at night, they should contact us straightaway and we’ll come and investigate.”
The Northumbria Police non-emergency number to report suspicious activity is 03456 043043, ext 69191.
