SHOP staff in Morpeth have been warned to be on their guard after several forged £20 notes were found.
Police received four separate reports of two men using the fake currency in town centre shops.
They targeted Joe’s Pet Supplies, Subway, Grainger Games and the Stobhill general store on November 30.
Morpeth Acting Inspector Dave Simpson said: “I would ask businesses and members of the public to be extra vigilant when receiving any £20 notes and make sure they are authentic.”
The men were aged about 25.
One was 5ft 5ins tall, skinny and had dark, shaved hair. He had stubble and was wearing a white Nike hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms.
The other was about 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build, with blond-brown coloured hair. He was wearing a light blue, thin raincoat type of jacket with the hood up.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 03456 043043.
