CRIME prevention advice has been offered to residents in Northumberland to lock out opportunist thieves.
Police say that making sure doors and windows are locked at all times, even when people are at home, can make a real difference.
Chief Inspector Peter Reeve said: “With the nights starting to draw in we want to make sure residents keep themselves safe and secure and do not give opportunities to thieves.
“A break-in can cause misery and inconvenience to householders, but taking simple precautions like locking doors and windows and leaving lights on can help avoid this and make a real difference to protecting your property.
“We would ask residents to take on board this advice to help stop themselves from becoming a victim of crime.”
