A MAN has denied murdering a woman whose body was found in a burning house last year.
Stephen Streener, 49, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on Tuesday charged with murder following the death of Jacqueline Grant at his home in Choppington’s Meadow Bank Drive in December.
Firefighters found the 48-year-old’s body in a bedroom in the semi-detached home.
A post-mortem revealed the mother-of-two had been strangled and beaten.
Mrs Grant lived with her husband Robert and 27-year-old son, also called Robert, in Ponteland.
Streener pleaded not guilty to murder and was remanded in custody.
He will return to court to stand trial on Monday, May 21.
