Police hunt purse thieves

POLICE are looking to trace two people after a woman had her purse stolen in a Morpeth supermarket.

At about 11.30am on Saturday, February 26, the 63-year-old was shopping in Morrisons in Stanley Terrace when she was approached by a woman.

While the victim was speaking to the woman, a man took her purse from her shopping trolley.

The couple were both of eastern European appearance and both around 5ft 10ins tall. The man was of medium build, had short dark hair and was wearing a blue hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms.

The woman had long dark hair and was wearing a black bomber-style jacket and faded blue jeans.

Morpeth Neighbourhood Inspector Alison Best said: “Anyone who may have also been approached by the couple, or who has any information that could help identify the offenders, is asked to contact police.

“People should also take steps to help deter these type of thieves. Keep your wallet, purse or bag close to you at all times. Ensure it’s zipped up and not on show and never leave it in a trolley or out in the open.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 03456 043043, ext 69191, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
