POLICE have appealed for help in tracing a stolen car that may contain a firearm.
The red Subaru Forester Estate was stolen from an address near Stamfordham last week.
It is believed there may be a legally-held firearm inside and officers are asking anyone who has seen the car to contact them.
Detective Inspector Dave Brown said: “The owner of the vehicle is a licensed firearm holder. It may be that those responsible for taking the vehicle don’t actually know what’s in it.
“We ask anyone who has information about the whereabouts of the vehicle or firearm to contact the police immediately.”
The car, registration ST60 EKL, was stolen at around 2.55pm on Wednesday, July 11.
Anyone with information should contact police on 101, ext 69191, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
