Thieves nab haul worth thousands

OPPORTUNIST thieves have struck in Ponteland.

Eight cars in the Eastern Way, Willow Way and Meadow Court areas had items stolen from them overnight between Thursday, November 3, and Friday, November 4.

All eight of the cars were left unlocked while parked overnight.

The thieves helped themselves to thousands of pounds worth of belongings from them, including a Louis Vuitton handbag, purses, cash, briefcases, electronic goods, mobile phones and clothing.

Around the same time, two insecure homes were burgled.

Car keys were taken after burglars got into a house in the Oaklands area but no cars were taken.

A drawer of items was also stolen after thieves sneaked into an unlocked property in Edge Hill.

The drawer was later found discarded nearby.

East Tynedale Neighbourhood Inspector Kevin Oates said: “I’d urge anyone who may have been in the area on Thursday night, into Friday morning, and who may have seen anything or anyone suspicious in the area to get in touch with police.

“A witness reported seeing a group of three men, possibly youths, in the area around the time of the offences and we’d be particularly keen to speak to them or anyone who might have seen them.

“All the houses and vehicles targeted were done so because they had been left unlocked, insecure and with valuables left inside.

“Lock your cars overnight. Take all valuables out of them and store them inside.

“Make sure you lock your doors before you go to sleep at night.”

Inquiries into the thefts and the two burglaries are ongoing. Police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 03456 043043, extension 69191.
