Trouble-makers sent packing

POTENTIAL trouble-makers in Northumberland will be sent packing in a new police initiative.

Officers are stepping up action to tackle alcohol-related disorder by implementing Direction To Leave orders.

The measures enable police to order anyone over the age of 10 to leave a specific area for up to 48 hours if they believe they may cause trouble. The orders can be applied to groups and will also allow officers to take under 16s home or to a place of safety and discuss their behaviour with their parents.
