TWO men have been arrested in connection with a number of burglaries in Ellington and Cresswell.
Overnight between Tuesday, May 10, and Wednesday, May 11, houses were broken into and items taken.
Inquiries were carried out and police subsequently arrested two men.
John Taylor, 22, of East Lea, Newbiggin, was charged with three counts of burglary. He appeared at South East Northumberland Magistrates Court on Friday, May 13, where he was bailed until July 8.
A 28-year-old man from the Newbiggin was bailed by police pending further enquiries.
Detective Constable Faye Cook, of Ashington CID, said: “Recent incidents in the area should highlight just how important it is that people take action to make their homes, garages and sheds more secure.
“Lock your front and back doors, ensure all windows are secure, make sure garages, sheds and adjoining doors are always secure.
“If you hear any suspicious noises or see anything suspicious, regardless of what time of the day or night it happens, then contact police straight away.
“We are also appealing for anyone who lives in the Ellington area and has CCTV systems to check their footage between 11pm on May 10 and 8am on May 11, and if they spot anything suspicious on the footage to contact the police.”
Anyone with any information is asked to telephone Ashington CID on 03456 043043, ext 69191.
