YOUTHS have gone on the rampage in Morpeth’s Carlisle Park.
About seven youngsters were seen setting fires at around 12.50am on Monday.
A bench was destroyed and when police arrived, the group fled towards Newgate Street.
Inspector Dave Simpson said: “These youths were responsible for mindless damage inside a park that is well used by the local community.
“They were reckless in their actions and could have caused even more damage and injured themselves if the police and fire and rescue service had not responded so quickly.
“We are reviewing CCTV to identify those responsible and would urge anyone who was involved, or any witnesses, to come forward before we identify them and come to arrest them.
“The park is maintained for everyone to enjoy and we will not tolerate a minority of individuals ruining it for the rest.”
