A MORPETH youngster’s dedication, hard work and all round enthusiasm has seen him win an impressive lifeguard award.

Thirteen-year-old Rioghan Bruce from Loansdean was chosen to receive the prestigious 2012 Lifeguard Award by swimming coaches Tracey Sample and Jock Bolam at Alnwick Lifesavers.

He is currently training as part of the Rookie Lifeguard programme at Alnwick Pool – the junior award scheme of the RLSS UK – learning important water safety skills that could one day help to save the life of a swimmer in trouble at sea or in the pool.

His coaches commented on how much improvement Rioghan had shown over the year, particularly noting that he always showed a very positive attitude.
