Morpeth Lions Club
Recently, Morpeth Lions Club held its annual Street Collection.
The collection is normally organised in October, but this year there was a voluntary delay due to another flooding crisis.
The Lions club felt that local residents had been superbly generous when donating to the Morpeth flood victims appeal, which came just a few weeks before the collection was originally scheduled to take place.
Accordingly, the collection was put back.
The club finally got out its buckets this month and Lions members donned various layers of clothing, including distinctive headwear, to ward off the March chills.
Despite the delay, members of the public were as generous as ever in supporting the collection, with almost £800 donated.
Joint collection organisers Ken Brown and Alec Fleming thanked people for their support.
They said: “We are always grateful for the support of the people of Morpeth and the surrounding areas. Fortunately we were blessed with good weather and kind hearts.
“The total of £784.37 raised will assist us to help local people and organisations over the next few months.”
