LUNCHTIMES at a Morpeth school are going global.

After discussing ways of enhancing the school dining experience, the Student Voice group at Newminster Middle School & Technology College decided to do themed days on countries around the world.

The first of these was about Italy. It featured Italian foods and recipes, the dinner hall was decked with flags and music from the country was played.

Sumeena Razzaqi, Acting Assistant Head at Newminster, said: “Student Voice members talked to their fellow pupils to find out what they would like and what they wouldn’t like to see at dinner time to make it more interesting.

“They worked closely with teachers in food technology and textiles classes and our dinner ladies to put it all together. They even designed an Italian apron for the head dinner lady.

“Hopefully, this will lead to more students taking up school dinners. We are planning to roll out more of these days, including Mexican, Chinese, Indian and Best of British, in the next academic year.”

The school would welcome residents loaning CDs or artefacts for the themed lunches. For more information, telephone 01670 513621.
