Pupils in Ponteland have been tied up with fund-raising after lending their support to a mental health awareness campaign.
Youngsters from Richard Coates Middle School attended classes wearing multi-coloured ties on Friday as they welcomed Ponteland High sixth form student George Hunter to give a special assembly.
George has committed to wear a different tie every school day this year to raise money and awareness for Mind, Young Minds and the Mary Frances Trust mental health charities.
He posts pictures online at www.mytiediary.co.uk along with information about mental health.
He said: “Richard Coates is really supporting my campaign, Each pupil paid 50p to wear a special tie to give me donations for the charities and the assembly went down really well.”
George’s campaign has also been supported by footballers Alan Shearer and Steve Harper and boxing champion Glenn McCrory.
