A PONTELAND school has been honoured for its support of a station which saves lives at sea.

Ever since a group visited Amble lifeboat station as part of a seaside project nine years ago, Richard Coates Middle School has had strong links with the Amble Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Pupils and staff regularly raise funds for the station, arranging events such as ‘dress down’ days and cake stalls, and they recently received a Regional School Supporter award at a ceremony in York.

Natalie O’Sullivan, RNLI Youth Education Manager, said: “The school has been a dedicated and tireless supporter of our charity for many years.”
