MORPETH’S two middle schools had a bake off to decide the winner of a tasty competition.
The Jus Roll Eccles Cake Challenge heats took place throughout the year and culminated in the final event between teams from Chantry and Newminster Middle Schools and Technology Colleges.
And with more than 1,500 quality cakes produced in an hour and a half by 22 Year 8 pupils, the Chantry side was the winner.
Food technology teacher Helen Moran said: “The challenge gives pupils the opportunity to work as a team in factory style conditions and it has brought out the very best in them.
“The team is a lively hard working group of young people that I will miss when they go on to high schools in September.”
Money from the sale of the Eccles cakes goes to charity.
