CHILDREN of all ages put their best feet forward to raise funds for their school.
Pupils at Grange View First School in Widdrington Station abandoned the usual sports day this year to take part in a sponsored walk instead.
All classes signed up to the event, along with some parents.
Different age groups were given different distances to complete, from the nursery’s two laps of the school field, to Years 3 and 4, which had to finish six laps.
The event raised an impressive £1,178, which will be spent on the school’s outdoor area in consultation with the school council.
Headteacher Louise Laskey said: “Rather than have a sports day, we had a sponsored walk and the parents took part as well. It was quite fun watching the parents running around, they were worn out.
“The total we raised was very good for one day. It will go towards developing our outdoor area.
“The children have designed new yellow markings and there will be a buddy bus stop so if a child is feeling lonely they will go there and somebody will look after them.”
The school also held a summer fair, with various stalls and activities.
