CHILDREN have paid a visit to the council chamber to learn more about democracy.

A group of Year 8 students from Morpeth’s Chantry Middle School made the trip to Northumberland County Council earlier this month to celebrate Local Democracy Week.

They learnt about the role of the authority, the Youth Parliament, how to vote and how they could become more involved in the council.

Council Chairman Kath Nisbet said: “I think the children thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon and hopefully took a lot away with them in terms of knowing how they can make a difference locally.”
