YEAR 9 students at Morpeth’s high school had an enlightening day when they were visited by an ordained Buddhist monk.
Gen Kelsang Sherab, a monk of the Kampala tradition, came from the Buddhist Compassionate Centre in Gosforth to speak to pupils at King Edward VI School in their Religious Studies lessons.
He talked about how to achieve ‘inner peace’ through the practice of Buddhist meditation and gave them an insight into a very different way of life to their own.
He also answered a range of questions about his own life as a monk.
Religious Studies teacher Anne-Marie Carter said: “For many of the students this was their first experience of meditation and many found they felt much calmer and relaxed as a result.”
