Group welcomes new season

SOME people may be downhearted at the onset of Autumn — but more than 150 members of the Mid-Northumberland U3A are looking forward to the changing season.

This is because the group’s season starts on Wednesday with its Annual General Meeting at 2pm.

John Brierley from the Medical Air Force will be speaking prior to refreshments and the formal AGM. There will also be an exhibition by its Art Appreciation Group.

Admission to the event, which will take place in Longhirst Village Hall, is £1.

The branch meets during the afternoon of the second Wednesday of each month and future speakers will cover topics including Joseph Stalin, professional snooker, Christmas entertainment, the Holocaust, along the Northumbrian coast and broadcasting.

Away from the lecture hall, the branch encompasses some 26 groups such as Geneaology, Local History, Wine and Food Appreciation, Bridge, Three-mile and five to seven-mile walks, Pub Chat and Travel.

For more information about the group, which is open to retired people, telephone Membership Secretary Brian Hannaford on 01670 512016 or Chairman Bob Crosby on 01670 512238.
