EYE-CATCHING designs from five Morpeth schoolchildren has won them tickets to see some Olympic action.

Linda Grundy, PE teacher at Chantry Middle School and Technology College, obtained sets of tickets for some of the men’s and women’s football matches during the Games at St James’ Park in Newcastle.

The Student Council was asked to come up with an idea to decide how they would be distributed and members chose to organise a competition, which sought designs for colourful football strips.

The winning entries were from Tia Wray, Sophie Binns, Princess Watson and a joint effort by Katie Capstaff and Ellie Morgan.

“We entered together because we’re best friends and we decided to do a pink and white women’s strip with two Olympic rings for a badge, which had our initials inside,” said Ellie.

“We’re very excited about going to see some Olympics action.”
