PUPILS are getting up close and personal with their new pet.

The children at Morpeth All Saints First School in Lancaster Park decided to get a snail after completing a Mini-beast and Me workshop at the Centre for Life in Newcastle.

Student teachers Mrs Ball and Miss Thornton presented the albino baby Giant African Snail, which has been named Zoomie, on the final day of their placement.

All Saints teacher Julie McLaughlin said: “The children are very excited about having Zoomie as a pet.

“We have researched how to look after Zoomie and he has happily settled into his new home.”
