STUDENTS have been warned to be on their guard against email scammers.
Northumberland Trading Standards says fraudsters see the start of a new academic term as an opportunity to target students who are awaiting their next loan instalments.
Student Finance England, which handles loans and grants, is aware of the scams and has previously warned clients about them.
They claim to be from student finance companies and ask for personal details to release payments.
People are advised not to respond to any emails of this type.
Trading Standards says if students receive a message claiming to be from Student Finance England that asks them to go to a website to confirm their details, they should send it on to firstname.lastname@example.org and then delete it.
