A PONTELAND teenager showcased her excellent culinary skills at a regional contest.
Hannah Buffham qualified for the Northumberland/Tyne & Wear final of the Springboard FutureChef competition after winning the Ponteland High School heat with her colourful and tasty vegetable pasta bake.
She and the other Year 9 students taking part – Jasper Turnbull, Molly Carpenter and Alex Elliott-Smith – all confidently planned, prepared, cooked and served a main meal dish of their choice in one hour.
They were only allowed to spend £5 or less on ingredients.
All four reacted very well to having to cook under pressure and they confidently justified their choice of ingredients and presentation techniques to the judges, who in the end awarded first place to Hannah.
At the regional final in Newcastle, she produced a two-course meal (the maximum spend allowed was £7) and impressed the judges with her dishes and presentation.
Hannah was placed fourth out of the eight schools represented.
