A SUPPORT project for elderly residents was highlighted at a recent conference in the county.
The event provided an opportunity for people to explain how being awarded Attendance Allowance has helped improve their quality of life and promoters of the scheme to share their experiences.
Attendance Allowance may be claimed by those with long-term conditions or disabilities aged 65 and over to help them live independently in their own home.
Age UK Northumberland is working with Northumberland County Council in raising the awareness of the scheme among voluntary and community groups.
The Attendance Allowance Promotion Project started in October 2011 and additional funding has been given to extend it until the end of March 2013.
Council Executive Member for Adult Care and Wellbeing Ian Lindley said: “It is really important that people know what help and support is out there. All our services are designed to support and enable people to live the fullest lives possible.”
