Library members in Northumberland can now download eMagazines for free with no loan periods and no overdue fines.
The range of magazines on offer includes over 30 popular magazine titles including Good Housekeeping UK, Cosmopolitan UK, BBC Good Food, Digital Photographer, Auto Express, Prima Baby and more.
In branches where wifi is available, library users can download magazines and eBooks and use online resources such as Ancestry, British Newspaper Archive and Oxford Reference.
Members of any Northumberland library can use a smartphone, tablet or PC to read a magazine or book and anyone who uses the Zinio for Libraries app can also read magazines offline once they have been downloaded.
Coun Val Tyler, cabinet member for Arts, Leisure and Culture at Northumberland County Council, said: “Once you have downloaded a magazine or an eBook you can keep it for as long as you wish. There are no loan periods or overdue fees to pay so magazines can be read at your own leisure when and wherever you like.”
Wifi is currently available in the libraries at Alnwick, Bedlington Station, Berwick, Blyth, Cramlington, Guide Post, Haltwhistle, Heddon-on-the-Wall, Hexham, Lynemouth, Morpeth and Prudhoe.
Digital champions are on hand in many of the county’s branches to provide assistance to anyone who needs help or advice on using digital resources or support using a tablet or PC.
The champions are in place at various times at the following libraries: Alnwick, Amble, Ashington, Bedlington, Bedlington Station, Berwick, Blyth, Cramlington, Haltwhistle, Heddon, Hexham, Lynemouth, Morpeth, Ponteland, Prudhoe and Rothbury.
