NORTHUMBERLAND Wildlife Trust has appointed Brightblue Studio to design the new visitor centre at its Hauxley Nature Reserve.

The company, based in North Shields, was selected by the charity because of its strong social and environmental responsibility, history of designing eco-builds and use of recycled and natural materials.

The new facility will replace the previous building, which was burnt down in an arson attack in 2010.

Demolition of the old building took place earlier this year, delayed slightly by great-crested newts and a pair of breeding barn owls – who liked the place so much, they nested there for two consecutive years.
