HEN harriers in Northumberland have failed to nest successfully, putting the species on the brink of extinction in England.
The Northumberland pair were one of just two in the country that tried to nest, but both have failed. The Northumberland site had been protected by the RSPB and the landowner, but the eggs never hatched. It is not yet known why the second nest failed.
Now the RSPB has warned the species is at risk of extinction in England and it is working with stakeholders to produce an emergency recovery plan.
