GARDENERS in Northumberland are being reminded to dispose of chemicals safely.
The RSPB and Crop Protection Association have joined forces to produce a new advice leaflet on the safe use and disposal of garden care products.
People are being warned that inappropriate use or disposal of the chemicals can be harmful to wildlife and risk water pollution.
Guidance includes check for restrictions on use, use appropriate equipment to apply the chemical, only use on areas where there is a problem, spray early in the morning or late evening when insects are less active and never dispose of unwanted products in household drains or ditches.
The leaflet has been distributed to garden centres and is available online at www.garden-care.org.uk
