BETTER access will be available at a nature site thanks to a £5,000 grant.
Northumberland Wildlife Trust has received the cash from the Carillion Natural Habitats Fund to improve its Linton Lane reserve near Longhirst.
Estates officers and volunteers will introduce a new woodland management programme for the site, which will include improving access and pathways using natural materials, such as woodchips from trees thinned at the reserve. A number of nest boxes for tree sparrows, which are on a red list of threatened species, will also be installed.
Most of the site was part of a former opencast mine and the western pond was formed by subsidence of deep coal workings.
