WORKS will be carried out next month to repair River Pont banks which have suffered from considerable erosion.
The damage was caused by animals entering the river and floods and measures such as planting with willow and cutting back the slope will be undertaken by EcoNorth, the construction arm of Northumberland Wildlife Trust.
Permission for the works had already been received from the Environment Agency and they are planned for February in order to satisfy the requirements of the organisation to have the project completed by the end of March.
Ponteland Town Council had previously decided to include a figure within its budget for 2012/13 to cover the costs.
At its latest full council meeting, members agreed to proceed with the works and they also approved EcoNorth’s maintenance schedule.
