A MAJOR flood exercise will take place in Morpeth next week.
The event on Wednesday will include several agencies, including police and fire and rescue workers, to put Northumberland County Council’s revised flood plan to the test.
The council’s internal response will be examined through the day and an operations room will be opened, and from 6pm the focus will shift to Morpeth town centre to demonstrate the operational capacity of services in the event of a flood.
Council officers, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, Northumbria Police and the Environment Agency will meet at the Town Hall at 6pm and flood wardens, the Morpeth Flood Action Group (MFAG) and other organisations have been invited to take part.
Morpeth has been chosen for the exercise after suffering from several flooding incidents in recent years, but the two-hour test will consider the effects of heavy rainfall across the county.
It is being held as a new flood community agreement is drawn up.
