A NEW service has been launched as part of efforts to try to increase the number of Northumberland residents coming forward to adopt children or provide foster care.

The integrated adoption and fostering family placement team was recently formally launched by Coun Robert Arckless, policy board member responsible for children’s services.

The event also celebrated the new ‘myth-busting’ adoption and fostering websites. Banners and other promotions are also being rolled out over the next few months to help raise awareness that the county council needs new parents and carers.

Paul Moffat, corporate director of children’s services at the authority, said: “The new service joins together the adoption and fostering services to focus on recruiting and supporting more adopters and foster carers willing to ‘count themselves in’ to change the lives of the most vulnerable Northumberland children.”

There are different types of fostering to suit different households and adoption is not solely for people who do not have children.
