Fatal crash witness sought

POLICE are trying to trace a driver who may have vital information about a fatal crash north of Morpeth.

The accident happened on the A1 near Felton on Monday, November 12 last year, at 7.43am, when a white BMW travelling south crossed the central line and collided with a northbound Citroen and VW van.

The van driver, 37-year-old Nigel Sowerby of Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, died as a result of his injuries.

Now officers are keen to speak to the driver of a white Vauxhall Corsa, who was travelling southbound on the A1 at the time as he may have seen what happened or noticed the way the BMW was being driven before the collision.

Road Safety Sergeant Steve Templeman said: “We know the drive wasn’t involved but may have seen the BMW before the collision happened and this could be crucial to our investigation.”
