Firefighters give walk a helping hand

A GROUP of Northumberland firefighters put on some completely different, eye-catching clothing for a video in support of a regional charity event.

The team can be seen on the St Oswald’s Hospice YouTube channel singing their favourite anthem by The Proclaimers – I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).

John Young, Community Liaison Officer for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We were more than happy to help St Oswald’s promote its Midnight Walk on Saturday.

“We delivered some Christmas presents to the children’s service so know first hand about the amazing work that goes on there.

“We’re all game for a laugh, so didn’t mind donning some pink feather boas and cowboy hats for the video.

“We don’t mind making fools of ourselves if it helps St Oswald’s in some way.”

Everyone from the age of ten is encouraged to take part in the event, which starts at Newcastle Civic Centre. All participants will receive a welcome pack and goody bag as well as a bacon sandwich and cup of tea at the end of the walk.

The charity provides specialist care for North East adults, young people and children with life-limiting conditions.

Fund-raiser Dorothy Alderton said: “We’re extremely grateful to the team from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service who gave up their time to help us promote the walk.”
