More than 200 people have taken the chance to see work in progress on Morpeth’s flood alleviation scheme.
An open day was held at Morpeth Rugby Club yesterday for residents to speak to Environment Agency staff about the project, and bus tours were organised to see work on the upstream floodwater storage system.
The dam when combined with improved defences in Morpeth town centre will provide protection from flooding in the town to a one-in-137-year event standard.
It will have a capacity to hold back 1.4 million cubic metres of water.
Here, Environment Agency Asset Performance Manager David Clark and Operations Manager Alan Cadas outline the scheme.
