Football grant

A NEW football team is kicking off with a £52 grant for training equipment.

The award has been given to Stobswood Welfare Athletic Football Club — the third to start up at the venue.

The club, which is for players aged 15 and over, initially asked for £162 to fund league fees, training kit and 10 footballs. However, members of Widdrington Station and Stobswood Parish Council agreed to pay only the costs of equipment. The grant was approved unanimously.

The council also awarded a £50 grant to the Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering Committee to go towards the costs of the annual heritage festival.
