NORTHUMBERLAND has its own champion to spearhead the search for more foster carers.
The county council is one of 12 local authorities chosen by The Fostering Network to participate in the charity’s national scheme, which launched last month.
Caroline Matthews, Marketing Officer for the authority’s fostering service, has been chosen as the area’s ‘recruitment champion’ and she has already received training to equip her for this role.
She will be matched with enquirers from fostering services to offer them the most relevant support.
Councillor Lesley Rickerby, Executive Member for Children and Young People at Northumberland County Council, said: “This is a wonderful way to support the recruitment and retention of foster carers.
“The initiative should provide great support to those working in the fostering service and is a perfect example of councils working together to pool resources and expertise to benefit children in their care.”
