Groups urged to bid for county cash

PONTELAND’S organisations have been urged to apply for a county council funding pot.

The authority’s Community Chest grants scheme can provide groups with up to £10,000 to help with the costs of a project or keep a service going.

But Ponteland West county councillor Veronica Jones told a meeting of Ponteland Town Council that there has only been one application from the area in 2011/12.

“This shows that it’s not a case of the county council snubbing us,” she added.

“Any community organisation can apply to the Community Chest and it can make a big difference to what they are able to provide, so I hope there will be a lot more from Ponteland in 2012.”

There is still some funding left for this financial year and money has also been provided for 2012/13.
