A charity hair show in Ponteland brought in more than £900 for the fund-raising effort in aid of a poorly child.

Emma and Angela Bailey, directors at Q Hair Design, wanted to do something for the Musgrove family and decided a styling tips and showcase evening might be fun way to help.

The event was held at the Post Box cafe bar. Guests enjoyed prosecco, canapés and expert hair styling demonstrations from the creative team at the Ponteland salon.

Four-year-old Kian Musgrove was diagnosed with neuroblastoma for the second time in December, two years after doctors found 27 cancerous tumours in his body.

A total in the region of £555,000 needs to be raised for the specialist treatment that is not available to Kian in the UK.

Angela and Emma said: “We’ve been following Kian’s story for a while now and wanted to do something to help get him the treatment he needs.

“On top of a sold-out event, we received many generous additional donations and raffle prizes from individuals and local businesses, so we were really overwhelmed.”

Among the prizes won on the evening were a luxury BMW for the weekend, courtesy of Coopers of Durham, dinner at the Fratelli restaurant in Ponteland and spa treatments from Behind the Scenes Ponteland.

Alex Kinsey, one of the owners of Post Box, said they were only too pleased to hold the show at the cafe bar and he helped to organise the event.

He added: “The hair show was a brilliant fund-raising idea and it was a great evening with a lovely atmosphere.”
