A MORPETH girl lit up Morpeth’s Sanderson Arcade shopping complex on Saturday.

As the winner of its festive competition, Molly Bowles-Symons pressed the button to switch on the centre’s Christmas Lights display along with Santa.

And Father Christmas had an extra surprise for the nine-year-old when she arrived at the Arcade on Saturday for the big event — an early Christmas present of a pet hamster in a special pink cage.

In her competition entry, Molly said she would like to help Santa because he might help her to get a hamster for Christmas.

This year’s display includes a new piece in the piazza depicting Santas being pulled by reindeers flying into the sky.

Those who came along to the Arcade also enjoyed roundabout rides, chocolate giveaways and stilt walkers.

Centre Manager Debbie Anderson said: “It really was a very special day and a fantastic crowd, and it was lovely to meet Molly and her family.

“The Arcade looks fantastic all lit up and the new feature piece in the piazza area really is beautiful.”
