Advice unit rolls into town

A MOBILE service for blind or partially-sighted people will be heading to Morpeth next week.

Action for Blind People’s Sight Loss Information Service will come to Northumberland County Blind Association’s headquarters in Staithes Lane.

The facility is packed with the latest aids and equipment to help people with sight loss, and its friendly and knowledgeable staff can offer impartial, practical advice and support.

Gadgets available to try include vibrating bank note detectors and talking microwaves and tin lids.

Spokesman Robert Harris said: “Everybody is welcome to come along to visit us on the mobile. Whether you are visually impaired or know somebody who may be having problems with their sight, please pay us a visit and pick up information or ask us questions.

“Visitors can try out a wide range of daily living aids, or the latest computer and magnification technology.”

The service will be in Morpeth on Wednesday, from 10am to 4pm.

It will also visit Bedlington, Blyth, Haydon Bridge and Haltwhistle throughout the week.
