Carers can find out more about their rights

An event in Morpeth Town Hall tomorrow will give those looking after sick or disabled relatives at home the opportunity to check they are claiming all the benefits and support that they are entitled to receive.

Carers Northumberland is among the groups across Britain taking part in the national awareness day initiative organised by Carers UK.

Those who come along to the Carers Rights Day event, it will run from 10.30am to 1.30pm, can speak to specialist advisors representing organisations such as DAWN Advice, Legacare and Age UK.

As well as wills, power of attorneys, debt advice and emotional support, they can find out more about a range of benefits, including Carer’s Allowance, short breaks to recharge their batteries and technology like telecare.

Sharon Spurling, chief executive of Carers Northumberland, said: “With thousands of carers in Northumberland, we are keen to let them know about their rights and entitlements.”
