A HEALTH care charity has passed the million pound mark for donations.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Charity collected £1,088,000 over the last year to improve care for people in hospital, while a further £179,000 was raised through hospital volunteer service shops.
The Northumbria Charitable Funds has now dished out more than £700,000 to support a variety of projects for hospital staff and patients.
There is a health and well-being programme for staff, including fitness and relaxation classes and healthy eating sessions, and a healing arts programme for patients and carers.
A new non-invasive ultrasound procedure has been introduced to help with the diagnosis of lung cancer, providing a quicker and safer service and eliminating the need for general anaesthetic.And 40 pairs of non-slip slippers have been bought to try to reduce the number of falls of elderly patients.
