TWO blood donor sessions will be held in Morpeth this month.
NHS Blood and Transplant is appealing for donors to come forward as hospitals need more than 7,000 units of blood every day for patients undergoing cancer treatment, road accident victims and women who experience complications in childbirth.
Spokesman Darren Bowen said: “Blood is needed by patients 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Without the regular commitment of blood donors many lives would be lost and we are very grateful to our loyal and committed donors who save lives every time they donate.”
First time donors should be aged between 17 and 65, weigh at least 50 kg (7 stone 12lbs) and be in general good health. People who have donated blood before can start again up to their 70th birthday and there is no upper age limit for those who have donated in the last two years.
The Morpeth sessions will be held in Storey Park Community Centre on Sunday, from 10.30am to 1pm, and 2.30pm to 4.30pm, and on Friday, April 27, from 1.30pm to 4pm, and 4.45pm to 7pm.
