RESIDENTS in Morpeth and Ponteland are being invited to give blood next week.
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is appealing for donors to go along to its sessions to help boost vital stocks.
Blood is needed for patients undergoing cancer treatment, people who have been involved in accidents and women who experience complications in childbirth.
NHSBT spokesman Darren Bowen said: “We would love to see both new and existing donors coming down to one of our local sessions in May. We can promise them a warm welcome and the satisfaction of knowing that their life-saving donation will be used to help ill or injured people in our region.”
First-time donors should be aged between 17 and 65, but those who have donated in the past can resume up to their 70th birthday and there is no upper age limit for those who have donated in the last two years.
Donors should weigh at least 50kg (7 stone 12 lbs) and be in general good health.
Sessions will be held at Ponteland Memorial Hall in Darras Road next Thursday, from 1.45pm to 4pm, and from 4.45pm to 7pm.
There will be opportunities at Storey Park Community Centre in Morpeth the following day, Friday, May 25, from 1.30pm to 4pm, and from 4.45pm to 7pm.
